The Five Senses of Dharana Workshop

  • Namaste Fitness 2015 Birch Road #217 Chula Vista, CA 91915 US (map)

Modern life scatters our attention, leading to mental fatigue and stress. This immersive 90-minute workshop with Karina Gonzalez teaches Dharana (the yoga of single-pointed concentration) to anchor the busy mind.

Participants will use physical objects as gateways to deep meditation. By pairing active sensory focus with deeply relaxing restorative yoga, students will learn to turn down the volume of external noise and cultivate lasting inner stillness.

Understanding Dharana

    •    Learn the philosophy of Dharana, the sixth limb of yoga.

    •    Discover how sensory anchors stop racing thoughts.

Sound & Sight Anchors

    •    Sound: Center the mind using the resonance of live sound bowls or music .

    •    Sight: Practice Trataka (candle gazing) to fix visual attention and calm the nervous system.

Restorative Yoga & Physical Touch

    •    Melt into supported yoga poses held for extended periods.

    •    Smell & Touch: Integrate scented oils and lotions to ground the physical body during the practice.

Taste & Integration

    •    Taste: Conclude with a mindful tasting exercise using warm tea or a piece of fruit.

Journaling & Reflection

    •    Put pen to paper to capture thoughts and shifts in mental clarity.

    •    Process the internal experience of shifting from distraction to focus.

*Bring a mat, notebook and pen, and comfy clothes.
